this weekend, chengdu will host the zebra music festival, featuring dozens of bands from china and around the world.  for the next few days i'll be taking a look at some of the bands, and giving you a taste of what the festival has to offer.

Hightone, from france, and the Electroboys, from sweden are 2 of the festival's international acts, and both have a sound that can in one way or another be described as electronica.  Histone, have a chilled out DUB sound, while Electroboys have more of a poplike sound.

it seems everybody wants to know where to get the best pizza in CQ. i haven't tried them all, so i'm not too sure, but one of the better places is one of the most unsuspecting locations.  Haoledi ktv, on the 3rd floor above cotton club in Jeifangbei.  with about 5 options to choose from @ 20RMB a pop, you can't go wrong.  each pizza is roughly 10 inches, and has the one sign of a real pizza; cheeze that stretches when you take a bite.

actually, more like a singer and a photographer...
i'm talking of course of local artist miao miao.  When taking time off from leading one of CQ and China's best indie bands(TDGS), she apparently likes to snap a photo or 2.  Ceck outher pictures of beijing-based indie-rockers Hedgehog, this past friday @ the nuts club.

Hedgehog is an indie-pop band from beijing, and they're playing the nuts club in CQ friday night, and you best believe I'll be there,and i suggest you join me, lest be left behind to duke it out with god.

these girls are from about as far away from california as you can get, but give them a listen and you may think otherwise. the beijing-based "retro garage-rock" trio, ourself beside me, played the nuts club saturday, and though they only played a mere 45 minute set, they played exceptionally well, with a tight sound evocative of the "sunshine state" circa '90.
