In the run-up to the first ever LO▼E B▲NG out west, Heatwolves was kind enough to share with us an interview he did over at ChengduMusic.com(after the jump), as well as MIX 4 西部(The West), a 45 minute mix showcasing the "shimmering, neon side of electro...music for cold Siberian nights after the end of the world, drifting through the galaxy at 5,000 kilometers per hour on a prison ship, stars exploding in streams of pink and turquoise light all around." says Heatwolves. "If you like Robocop or Blade Runner, you'll love this mix." One listen had me fiending for some Nuke.... What is Love Bang? A little background before we get into theinterview. Love Bang is a monthly party/club night/music label/clothing brand from Shanghai, started by heatwolves.com in April 2010. The party is happening at Xiong Mao! On Saturday, June 2nd from 9PM till late. It's a night for people who wanna dance to lots of different music. Some hip hop, dubstep, house, club tracks, and other ingredients selected and mixed well. Bass. Different tempos, different genres. Maybe Motown, R&B, or whatever the crowd is feeling. Some underground, some mainstream, always unpretentious. This happens once a month at Dada Bar in Shanghai and sometimes other venues around the world. Resident DJs are The Super Ayi Cleaning Team - Heatwolves, DJ Caution, MC One Consciousness, and their Chinese auntie friends. How did you guys first get into DJing? Heatwolves: well I'm 657 years old so I've been doing this for a minute. The first time I DJed was at a fundraising ball for research on the polio vaccine. i played some of my favorite records for the guests there, they loved it. Caution has been DJing for many years as well; he's much more skilled than me. he's like a fine chef, my style is more like the Ol' Dirty Bastard. Every time the Kalakuta Kid has a gig in Chongqing, we end up writing about it. Some may consider this nepotism, because he is in fact a personal friend of ours(he used to live in Chongqing), but even if we had never met the Frenchman, and only heard his tunes, there is no doubt that we would still do the same. We made it clear a couple of years ago that he was our favorite DJ in Chongqing with his unique blend of hip-hop, swing, afro-beat and electro. And now that since moving to Tianjin last year his performances in CQ have dwindled from a few times a month to a couple times a year, we are very much looking forward to what he'll bring out this Friday night at Nuts. Beat-Jama(pyjama party): w/ the Kalakuta Kid and Slim Dr. Friday, May 25 at Nuts Club. 21:00 ¥40 Until then, check out his latest mix below... Prof. Marb is on a mission. The 20 year old Dutch DJ has a passion for techno, and he is determined to share and hopefully spread his passion with Chongqing. In an effort to do so he organized T for Techno, a free techno/house party at CiCi Park, this Saturday May 5. The party begins at 10 and according to the Dutchman, should go until 5 AM as a techno party should. Check out his soundcloud for a sample of his techy goodness |
