Now that China(as we know it) is officially 60, and our moon cakes have been properly digested, its time to ready yourself for an month of action unprecedented in Chongqing with(as is oh so fitting for October) a veritable cornucopia of going-ons, beginning tonight(Tues. the 6th) @ CiCi Park, as they present DJ Yang Shu from Beijing, bringing his capital-city styles to the mountain city for your dancing pleasure.  The party should jump off around 22:00 and is FREE for all!

If, when it comes to dancing you prefer the role of spectator, then the folks at the British Council have got something just for you.  This weekend(Sat. the 10th and Sun. the 11th)  the award winning National Dance Company Wales presents Hinterland and Behind the Mask, and evening of contemporary dance performances by one of the UK's best dance troupes.  Show time is 19:45 both nights @ the newly opened Chongqing Grand Theatre, and tickets range from 100 RMB - 680 RMB.

Home to most of the aforementioned action this month is Nuts Club.  In addition to their weekly film screenings and foosball tournaments is a string of live music events.  Making their return to Chongqing form Amsterdam is electro-pop outfit Monokino, this Friday(Oct. 9).  The following night(Sat. the 10th), another E.U.-based band will grace the Nuts Club stage, this time in the form of Finnish rockers Oriental Jam.  And rounding out the weekend is Chinese folk singer Ryoko on Sunday.
The following week kicks off on Thursday(Oct. 15), as the fine folks at Fresh World Promotions(FWP) present their first-ever "Thirsty Thursdays," with DJ's Good Weed(USA) playing indie-pop/rock, funk/soul, and hip-hop, X76(CQ) playing break beats, and DJ Zeng Xi Cui Ke(CQ) finishing off the night with house and techno.  Each DJ has their own drink special (which will last as long as they play), including a Long Island Ice Tea special that kicks off with Good Weed's set at 21:00.  Friday the 16th its indie/alternative folk band Low Wormwood from Lanzhou, Chengdu ex-pat/chinese band Proximity Butterfly, featuring one of my personal favorite's, C.P. Camera, as an opening act, on Saturday (Oct. 17th), and pop-rock trio Zhong Qian Tong on Sunday(Oct. 18).  Hardcore band Raging Radio's national tour makes a stop in CQ on Tuesday the 20th, followed by experimental/shoegaze band Miss Woman on Friday(10/23), and the lovely pop-rock duo PAIR Saturday(10/24).
Reflector, a post-rock band from Beijing make their second CQ appearance this calendar year on Friday the 30th, and I'm being told of a Halloween party like no other on the 31st(Saturday), the details of which are yet to be determined.
There you have it, a month full of music and arts for you to choose from.

And if culture really ain't your thing, there's always Maxxelli Real Estate's Ex-Pat Flea Market on Sunday the 18th.

So if China's show of military might and over the top national day celebrations, or Chongqing's lack of a moon during the mid-autmun festival left you wanting more, fear not, for October has plenty more to offer.
